Located in the Russian River Valley, the 10-acre century old Rue Vineyard is perfectly situated just off of Wood Road and meticulously farmed by Bob and Carlene Rue. The soil is a sandy loam with low pH that allows the planted ancient vines to produce small Zinfandel berries with concentrated flavors.
Featured in our Forgotten Vines Zinfandel, the vineyard is affected by the cooling influences of the Pacific Ocean to the west and the evening fog that is common in the Russian River Valley. Purchased by the Rues in 1973 – the vines were planted on the phylloxera-resistant St. George rootstock and were originally all head-pruned style. Over the years, the family has raised the vines to chest height for increased sun exposure and even ripening. Planted to 85% Zinfandel and 15% Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet and Carignane, the vineyard is a traditional field-blend like so many pre-prohibition vineyards that have been lost to time.
We believe in nurturing our century old vines like family, with lots of love and attention.
