Vineyard Designate

These sites are exceptional—whether for their placement on slopes and ridges, the presence of rare old vines or unique clones, or the dedication of growers with decades of proven excellence.

Story

In honor of the many old Zinfandel vineyards that were overlooked for decades in Sonoma County due to prohibition, our Forgotten Vines blend is comprised of several exemplary mature vineyards. These heritage vineyards were first planted in the late 1800s and early 1900s in the warmer reaches of the region. Planted as field blends, Zinfandel is the primary varietal planted, but not the only varietal. Petite Sirah, Carignane, Alicante Bouchet, and even some native vines can also be found in some of the vineyards. The vineyards, primarily Saitone, Boshcetti, and Battaligni, are harvested separately and remain separate throughout fermentation and aging until the final Forgotten Vines blend is crafted.

Tasting Notes

This luxurious, richly colored wine envelops the senses with its sumptuous ripe cherry and rustic tobacco notes, accented by a whisper of silky cocoa. Its palate unfolds like an intricate mosaic of flavors, showcasing the decadence of strawberry compote and the depth of succulent plum, seamlessly layered with hints of fragrant cinnamon, warm nutmeg, and the toasty essence of roasted almond. Bold and expressive, this wine boasts remarkable intensity, upheld by robust tannins that command attention, before gracefully concluding with a delicate sprinkle of black pepper on the finish.
