The wines in this collection are primarily from Sonoma County, with most vineyards located within the distinct neighborhoods of the Russian River Valley appellation. These sites are exceptional—whether for their placement on slopes and ridges, the presence of rare old vines or unique clones, or the dedication of growers with decades of proven excellence.
The Pennacchio Vineyard is located in the cool southwestern reaches of the Sebastopol hills. The vineyard is on an easterly facing slope beneath coastal ridges that protect it from the ocean’s cooling fog. The vineyard is planted with a single Pinot Noir selection - Clone 115 - on Saint George root- stock. This unusual pairing of clone and rootstock contributes to a more robust growth, delayed ripening and larger clusters. The fruit from this vineyard is the very definition of our focus on terroir.
Our 2015 Pennacchio Vineyard Pinot Noir opens with enticing ripe, red fruit aromatics with notes of soft sandalwood. Focused flavors of plum and ripe raspberry, black cherry and a touch of cardamom gently spread across the palate. Broad and richly textured with silky tannins and full body, this well-balanced Pinot pairs well with seared duck breast or a hearty mushroom risotto.
